People always seem surprised that we manufacture our MagNeatOhz in the USA. Specifically, we work with Harmony Systems and Service, in Piqua OH.
In 2020, when we were working on the design and prototypes of this product line, we had a choice. We could either go with an offshore manufacturing partner or we could work with a domestic manufacturer.
Not only did we really connect with the team at Harmony, it also felt good to have our manufacturing close to home. Quality control is much easier when your manufacturer is close. In addition, if there are any issues, it's faster to communicate.
They also feel more like a partner than a contractor. They will share ideas with us for ways to make the product or the packaging better. They are part of our team.
Here in 2025, we are now dealing with the tariff wars. This will affect us because we source our magnets from China. They control 90% of the global rare earth magnet market and (as of today), they will not supply the US with any of these rare earth magnets.
This makes our future uncertain to say the least. Should we move our manufacturing to another country in order to be able to source our magnets? Should we exit the US market all together to avoid the chaos that is happening? We don't know yet. In addition, if we made up a solution, the reality may change so why bother. We will 'wait and see', just like the entire business community of the United States right now.
It does not seem that this is the desired outcome of this trade war. Sometimes you don't understand how your decisions will pan out. The sign of true wisdom is to know when to pivot when the outcome you expected does not manifest itself.
